From that time until the end of the war Vasily Strekalov served as an artillery scout who had to locate enemy firing points before the main army. It was in reconnaissance that Strekalov's short stature helped him in the best possible way: he could be unnoticed in places where it seemed impossible to pass through. Vasily Strekalov went through all the most significant battles of the final period of the war - Korsun-Shevchenkivska, Yasso-Kishenevskaya, Vislo-Sandomirskaya, Aldamskaya, Vislo-Oderskaya. The hero was able to liberate prisoners of concentration camps, and take Berlin, and participate in the operation to capture General Vlasov. Vasily Ivanovich participated in the liberation of Moscow, Bryansk, Kalinin regions, in breaking the blockade of Leningrad, passed through Ukraine, Moldavia, Romania and through all Eastern Europe. He was among the first to liberate concentration camps in Poland. Once, when he opened another concentration camp barracks, he met his relative Ivan Shulepov, with whom he had sat at school with until the 4th grade. He did not immediately recognise him - emaciated and exhausted.
The scout Vasily Strekalov was not afraid of anything, he climbed into the most dangerous places, sneaked into the enemy's lair. It seemed that he conspired, so incredible were sometimes war stories. Once he single-handedly disarmed and captured 31 German soldiers. Another time he captured and brought two vehicles with weapons to the command post. But he later admitted that his incredible bravery was partly due to the fact that he was deadly tired of war.
